As part of our upgrade work in 2015, we decided to upgrade the electrical system with the latest battery management and inverter system from Victron, which should help us to manage our electrical demand efficiently in the future.

Matt, the electrician at Berthon in Lymington is working on stripping out the old NewMar battery charger, associated volt and ammeters and all the redundant cabling and switches.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On the floor is the new 3 KV Victron Inverter & charger unit to be installed. This great piece of kit will allow us to manage the battery bank effectively as well as routing the shorepower and generator output through to the relevent parts of the yacht. As part of this, we are reconfiguring the battery bank to allow for 6 x 110 AH batteries, seperate forward bow thruster batteries and seperate engine and generator start batteries. At a later date we will add solar panels, a wind generator and also a towed water generator, but this will be done closer to leaving. We also decided to add a Victron 16A isolation transformer to the set up and there will be some new switchboards installed to manage the new electrical distribution.

 

For the techies, here is what we are adding as a control system:

 

 

• Victron Quattro Sine wave multi plus. 12 volt 3000va inverter  with 120 amp charger - c/w 1x 50A & 1x 30A transfer relay

 

• DC link box in IP55 enclosure. Populated with 4 Mega fuses (2 x 300a, 1x 200a, 1 x 100a) and 1 Midi fuse (60a) for primary distribution, common negative bus bar - c/w Victron BMV700Battery Monitor fitted into enclosure

• Graphical User Interface. Ethernet (standard) and Wifi (optional) for remote monitoring and control. Data storage and graphical display on vrm.victronenergy.com. Android and iPhone apps VE.Bus, VE.Can and BMV connectivity

• 3/PMU panel.  Victron Phoenix Multi remote panel with power sharing facility and inverter / charger controls and indicators - c/w digital current limiter indication. *GX MODEL with 45deg RJ45 connector - for use with wall mount backbox

• VE.Direct Cable 10m 

• 2 x RJ45 MouldedPatch Cable Blue 10m

• Victron isolation transformer, 3.6kvA, 16A supplied with soft start and with enclosure. 150 mA no load consumption - 115/230v configurable input/output version

• 2 x Blue Seas ML-RBS Remote Battery Switch with Manual Control - 24V DC 500A - 7702
