Bye bye Switzerland

Today it was time to get our apartment cleaned and handed back to the management company in preparation for leaving Zurich on Sunday. Having lived here for the last 5 years it felt a bit strange to see all of our stuff packed up yesterday in the back of the Luker Brothers removal truck. Now it is on the way back to the UK for delivery on Monday. One step closer to our adventure....

Many years ago, a young Norewegian ethnographer and adventurer, Thor Heyerdahl, set out to prove his theory that the indigenous people of Polynesia originated from South America, by crossing the Pacific from Peru to French Polynesia on a balsa wood raft, the Kon Tiki. While we don't plan on having groundbreaking scientific expeditions, we do hope to cross the Pacific from Panama to the Marquesas in French Polynesia at some time in the future.

You may be asking why this is something worth mentioning and where this fits in our story... Well, some time ago, Jen bought a model of the Kon Tiki to keep herself occupied from the model shop in Hoengg. The nice guy in the shop mentioned that this model was a great starter kit and good to build with kids! After a year of building, the conclusion we came to is that Swiss kids must be super smart at model building. Well, in time for our leaving, Jen finally finished the Kon Tiki model and having emptied the apartment, her model could now set sail across our floor to her new home. Our cabin boy, having previously admired the model, is now the proud owner of a carefully constructed Kon Tiki model, although he doesn't know it yet.
